Museum of Ancient Eleftherna
The museum is located at a distance of 20 km away of Lameriana. The Museum of ancient Eleutherna - Homer in Crete, the first archaeological site museum in Crete, although smaller in size, are similar to those of Olympia, Delphi and Vergina. The museum created to house the results of the excavations carried out for thirty years in the ancient city of Eleutherna. The originality of this museum is that the objects of the permanent exhibition will be updated periodically with new and older finds excavated so that the public interest is continuous and relates to the discovery and expansion of the excavation work on the site. The exhibition will be accompanied by original and modern audiovisual exhibits.
Sfendoni Cave or Sfendoni’s hole (Zoniana)
Sfendoni Cave is located near the village of Zoniana (Rethymno Prefecture), at a distance of just 25 km of Lameriana. It is one of the most important caves in Greece, covering an area of about 3.000 square meters. The cave’s unique and rare beauty mesmerizes everybody, establishing it as one of Crete’s most beautiful caves. Visitors are allowed to explore a route of about 270 m, along which they can admire a variety of impressive formations. Large columns create labyrinthine compartments inside the cave and stalactites and stalagmites of different colours and shapes decorate the cave’s chambers.
The cave of Melidoni is just 5.8 km from Lameriana. The Melidoni Cave is located about 1 800 metres northwest of the village. It has an extremely interesting history and amazing archaeological findings some of which are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno. The Melidoni cave is also called "Gerondospilios". It was used for religious ceremonies. During the Minoan Civilization, it was a place of worship for Talos the bronze giant guardian of Crete who protected the island of Crete from enemies. It is of archaeological and historical interest. In October 1823 370 women and children and 30 warriors who hid from Hussein Bey sought refuge in the Melidoni cave. When he found out, the cave was surrounded by his army and he asked Cretan people to surrender.
The Arkadi Monastery
The Arkadi Monastery is just 27 km from Lameriana. The Arkadi Monastery situated on the island of Crete doesn’t solely belong to this island; it belongs to Greece, Europe and to all five continents – to the whole world. It is one of the Eastern Orthodox Monasteries underlining the catholicity and universality of the Church. Each year the Monastery receives and hosts many visitors and pilgrims from all over the world, from distant civilizations. Here are blended many languages, cultures, traditions, history and polymorphism. Nothing from the above can impede the faith unity, the catholicity of the orthodox spirit, the universality of the ecclesiastical testimony.
Old town of Rethymnon
Rethymno city is 28 km from Lameriana. The old town of Rethymno is built on the cape of the northern coast that was leaving the land and moves in the sea. Through a two-storey complex and three-storey houses, pop minarets of Ottoman mosques, the 19th century belfry of the Cathedral and the lighthouse at the mouth of the harbor as it rises into the sky contribute to the city's charm with enriching the variety and color. The Venetian fortress dominates the hill today Palaikastro and stands proudly over the Cretan Sea complements the unrivaled picture beauty and charm.
